Blaqbase:

Elevating a community-led, purpose-driven brand to luxury status

Goal: branding a luxury startup with diversity at its core

Blaqbase is an expert and solutions-led shopping and discovery platform showcasing black-owned brands and centred around a black female community.

The brand was in its startup phase and needed a brand strategy as clear and strong as its mission.

Method: Research into the brand space and careful market positioning

Light Sauce Studio worked closely with the brand’s founder, Benedicta Banga, to dissect Blaqbase’s target customer and their behaviours.

As the brand was a startup, that had launched shortly prior to our branding process, customer data was still limited. Market research and competitor analysis were therefore key to our brand strategy.

Result: A refined aesthetic unique within the brand’s space

A key finding from our research was the complete lack of beautiful, luxury feel platforms that targeted the black female customer and showcased black-owned brands.

Light Sauce Studio designed a complete brand strategy and visual identity system that helped position the brand in that gap. The branding system included a primary logo, logo mark, typography, colour scheme, graphics and imagery guidance.

Other assets produced included the app and web user interface, motion graphics, email design, packaging design and stationery.
